The Great Yellowstone National Park

I’ve been going to Yellowstone every couple years since I was a kid and I still think it’s by far the best national park. It is so big, with so many things to see and do. I still find places I’ve never been every time I visit. This park sits in the collapsed caldera of a super volcano and has more hydrothermal features than the rest of the world combined. There are geysers, hot springs, mud pots, and fumaroles spread all over the caldera. Plenty of animals like bison, elk, bear, and wolves roam among these beautiful geological features.

We made a day trip to Yellowstone this week. The park is so big we spent the whole day just visiting between the west entrance and Old Faithful. That’s probably less than 1/8 of the main roadways of the park. We could easily have spent a week camping there and still not visited everything we wanted to see.

Since this is our 8th national park in four months, the kids were getting a little tired of visiting them, mainly due to the driving around part. After this trip to Yellowstone though, they all admitted it was a pretty cool place and they were glad we went. We got to see numerous geysers, including Old Faithful, and quite a few beautiful springs. We also drove through a herd of bison and saw several elk along the road.

Next time we visit Yellowstone, we’ll be sure to make it at least a week trip. This is such a wonderful place!
